Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 Update 2024

Introduction:

Pro Evolution Soccer 2014, officially known as PES 2014 and recognized as World Soccer: Winning Eleven 2014 in Asia, including the title World Soccer: Winning Eleven 2014 - Aoki Samurai no Chousen exclusively in Japan, is a football video game crafted by Konami. It was developed and published for multiple platforms, namely Microsoft Windows, Nintendo 3DS, PlayStation 2, PlayStation 3, PlayStation Portable, and Xbox 360 in 2013. In a departure from the series tradition, the cover art for PES 2014 did not feature a football player, a deviation last seen in Pro Evolution Soccer 3 in 2003. However, a subsequent version with football players on the cover was later released. PES 2014 marked the final installment to be released on the PlayStation 2 and PlayStation Portable in Europe, succeeded by Pro Evolution Soccer 2015.

About This Game

Gameplay in Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 was shaped around six key elements designed to define the physics and features of the game. The focus was on the ball, emphasizing its movement and how players interact with it. Factors such as ball physics, player stature, pass speed, and height were carefully considered to deliver a realistic football experience on gaming platforms.

Players played a crucial role, with the Motion Animation Stability System (M.A.S.S.) enhancing the realism of physical interactions, tackles, and AI decisions on the field, contributing to more open and dynamic gameplay. The crowd also influenced team performance, and individual player performances affected the team's morale, either boosting it with moments of brilliance or prompting teammates to provide support during challenging times.

Building on the Player ID system introduced in PES 2013, PES 2014 expanded the system to encompass the movements and skills of approximately 50 star players, now extended to entire squads to replicate team playing styles. The new Combination Plan feature allowed users to set up various tactics in key areas of the pitch using three or more players, enabling diverse runs to exploit defensive gaps.

Notably, the game featured fully licensed UEFA Champions League, UEFA Europa League, and UEFA Super Cup competitions, along with exclusive licenses for the AFC Champions League, Argentine Primera División, Chilean Primera División, and Arabic commentary. English commentary was provided by Jon Champion and Jim Beglin, Japanese commentary by Jon Kabira, Tsuyoshi Kitazawa, and Hiroshi Nanami.

In a first for the series, players could change teams in the Master League and coach national sides. Additionally, players could create 3rd and 4th kits, and some official third and fourth kits were included. Rain was excluded from PES 2014 due to an engine upgrade, and the Stadium Editor and La Liga stadiums were omitted due to licensing restrictions.

Development and release

Pro Evolution Soccer 2014 was officially announced by Konami on March 10, 2013, and released on September 19 in Europe, September 20 in the United Kingdom, and November 14 in Japan. A playable demo was available for download on September 11. The PlayStation 2 version was exclusively released in Europe and marked the last game on the system in this region, as well as the final retail release for the PlayStation Portable in Europe and Mainland Asia.

As part of downloadable content in March 2014, the World Challenge mode was added, simulating a tournament akin to the FIFA World Cup. This mode provided official World Cup kits to licensed teams participating in the 2014 FIFA World Cup. The World Challenge DLC also allowed previously unplayable national teams to compete, although they featured unlicensed player names and incorrect strips.

PES 2014 utilized the Fox Engine, a cross-platform game engine developed by Kojima Productions, for a multiplatform gaming experience. The engine focused on realistic player movements and reactions, incorporating Havok for comprehensive player simulation. The PlayStation 2 version, however, did not employ the Fox Engine.
